AR App

Beyond Curie is a design project created by Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya that celebrates badass women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It has been featured in Fast Company, Quartz, Forbes, Smithsonian Magazine and Glamour. In 2018, Beyond Curie partnered with The North Carolina Museum of Natural sciences to design an AR-enabled wing dedicated to highlighting the stories, portraits and work of women in STEM.

To experience Beyond Curie — the Augmented Reality experience, you need two things:

  1. A smartphone with the Beyond Curie AR app installed (we have versions for iOS and Android)

  2. An image of one of the AR enabled Beyond Curie portraits. This could be on a computer screen, a printed poster, even friend’s phone with the images loaded.

Load the Beyond Curie app on your phone — once it’s on and showing what your phone sees via its camera lens, point your phone at one of the AR-enabled portraits and see the image come to life on your phone! 3-D animations will appear inside the app on top of the portrait.
